We at Foundation Consulting Corporation have taken an initiative at moving all of our web site hosting from the standard data center over to a data center that utilizes RECs.
What is an REC you ask?
It is a Renewable Energy Credit. Our hosting servers sit in the heart of Texas, and while it isn’t possible to build a wind farm in downtown Houston, we can support the use of wind energy through the purchase of RECs.
Just how much of an impact does this make?
Our data center has purchased 5,004MWh of power from wind farms across Texas
How much is 5,004MWh exactly?
It is the equivalent of:
Removing 444 Cars from the road for a year
It is how much carbon dioxide 809 acres of forest can absorb in a year
It prevents the emission of 3651 Metric Tons of carbon dixoide
It could power 321 homes for a year
It saves 5,654 barrels of oil
Pretty Amazing if you stop and think about it.
